JEMS renews its commitments with the Global Compact for the 9th consecutive year

The Global Compact is the world's largest initiative for sustainable development. In a global context of extreme tension over the Earth's resources, JEMS continues its efforts to adapt its IT practices with its unique approach to data modelling.

What was the Global Compact again?

The Global Compact Or Global Compact, is an initiative launched in 2000 by the United Nations with the aim of encouraging businesses worldwide to «adopt a socially responsible approach by committing to integrate and promote several principles relating to human rights, international labour standards, the environment and the fight against corruption.»

Being a signatory to the Global Compact means initiating a CSR dynamic within one's company by engaging a complete ecosystem: its employees, suppliers, and customers.

The Global Compact is based on 10 principles divided into 4 categories: Human Rights, International Labour Standards, Environment and Anti-Corruption, which each company must respect as a signatory. In 2015, the Global Compact launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These 17 goals align with the 10 principles.

In 2022 in France, 260 IT companies joined the Global Compact out of the 82,000* within the SYNTEC federation.

JEMS is among the 0.5% of digital companies that are members of the Global Compact, and has been since 2013.

In concrete terms, what does JEMS do?

CSR can take various forms. For an IT company like JEMS, it is important to clearly define our challenges. To do this, we studied international standards like the norm ISO 260001, but also the 10 principles of UN Global Compact French Network2, or the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative3.

For several years, we have decided to rely on the evaluation methodology EcoVadis with its 21 criteria to guide our CSR strategy, which we publish every year.

Since the start of their participation, JEMS has earned the medal ECOVADIS GOLD, which places us in the top 1% globally.

But we went further. We developed our own projects. Among these we can mention:

  1. Our partnership with the citizen platform LES VENDREDI. It allows employees to participate in one or more associative, humanitarian, social or environmental missions. Two days are thus authorised by the company to carry out these projects.
  2. In 2021, we are launching clothing, shoe, and toy collections in aid of Hello 92. More than 100 kilos were collected. We also donated 15 computers to the association Poles
  3. Recruit more women At JEMS: widening recruitment criteria, valuing different career paths, recruiting profiles of all ages, implementing operational pathways promoting professional retraining. While Syntec reports an average of 16% in so-called technical professions (according to the Syntec Numérique study of 4/03/2021), we have 23% women in our workforce. And of course, we are going to to pursue this initiative

JEMS's Data-Centric Approach: The Key to CSR

JEMS is a data industry player. We have developed a unique data modelling method on the market which is a genuine cost-reduction approach.Without going into detail, our method allows to launch use cases five times faster and at a lower cost. We are going to develop use cases with marginal cost and from the 2ndème desired use case, it becomes exponential.

because we remove «Raw Table » and the « Data Table » in the well-known layered model, we create savings:

  1. in development costs (less code to write),
  2. in operating costs, as switching from one layer to another involves IT processing. Less CPU means less CO2 generated.

This is a minimum gain of 30% that we envisage with our method.

Conclusion

JEMS has been a signatory to the Global Compact since 2013. For 9 years, we have continuously redoubled our efforts. This was materialised in 2022 when we received the label GREAT PLACE TO WORK.

But, more than certifications, we must set an example as data experts because, in the current geopolitical context, no one can afford not to achieve a global and sustainable economy.
